Five USP professors are among the most influential researchers in the world, as shown by the Clarivate Analytics survey published on November 19th. Among the mentioned professors, two are from FMUSP: Prof. André Russowsky Brunoni, form the IPq HCFMUSP, and Prof. Renata Bertazzi Levy, from the Preventive Medicine Department of FMUSP. Also on the list are the following USP professors: Prof. Houtan Noushmehr, of the Medical School of Ribeirão Preto (FMRP); Prof. Paulo Eduardo Artaxo Netto, of the Physics Institute (IF); and Prof. Carlos Augusto Monteiro, of the Public Health School (FSP).

Published annually since 2014, the Highly Cited Researchers list is elaborated from an analyzes of the amount of citations of published articles by a researcher throughout a decade, using the Web of Science platform. The researchers selected for the list belong to a group of 1%, which have kept the highest citation average during the period.

This year, overall, 6.216 researchers were selected in 21 areas of knowledge. The United States are the country with the highest number of mentioned researchers, a total of 2.737; followed by China, with 363; and, in third place, the United Kingdom, with 516. The Harvard University (USA) is the Institution with the highest number of cited researchers, 203.

The list also includes 23 granted with the Nobel Prize, of which three were announced this year: Gregg L. Semenza, in the medical area; John B. Goodenough, in chemistry; and Esther Duflo, in economy.

Besides the USP teachers, another ten Brazilian researchers are mentioned: Adriano Gomes Cruz (Federal Institute of Rio de Janeiro – IFRJ), Alvaro Avezum (Dante Pazzanese Cardiology Institute), Cesar G. Victora (Federal University of Pelotas); Flavio Kapczinski (Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul), Henriette M. C. de Azevedo and Renata Valeriano Tonon (Brazilian Company of Agricultural Research – Embrapa), Jose A. Marengo (National Institute for Space Research – INPE), Mauro Galetti (State University Julio de Mesquita Filho – Unesp), Miriam D. Hubinger (State University of Campinas – Unicamp) and Roldan Muradian (Fluminense Federal University – UFF).

“The presence of these researchers in the list elaborated by Clarivate shows the meaningful influence of the Brazilian scientific production in the world. Those are researchers who stand out by the high index of citation from their peers and contribute to amplify the frontiers of knowledge”, highlights the Dean of USP, Vahan Agopyan.
