Prof. Tarcisio Eloy Pessoa de Barros Filho participated, as Director of the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (FMUSP), in his last Congregation Session, held on October 21, 2022, and afterwards in the unveiling ceremony of his self-portrait.
In the lobby on the third floor of the FMUSP main building, opposite the Congregation room, the new portrait was incorporated into the permanent exhibition that portrays all former directors of the Faculdade de Medicina. The authorship of the work is by the artist Marcus Claudio, and was created with the use of oil-based paints.
As Director of FMUSP, Prof. Tarcisio E. P. Barros Filho worked from October 2018 to October 2022, with Prof. Roger Chammas as Deputy Director.
Although the Congregation meeting has an administrative nature and decision-making functions to deliberate on resources, projects, server management and other matters pertinent to the functioning of the Unit, at the end of this meeting, in an exceptional manner, many gestures of public recognition were made to the members of the Board who ended their management. Commendations were given by professors, students and a representative of the employees.
Many of the Heads of Department recognized the management of Prof. Tarcisio E. P. Barros Filho and Prof. Roger Chammas as being excellent, above all, during the adversities that arose with the Covid-19 pandemic. They thanked them for listening and paying attention to the guidelines and said they were willing to continue collaborating towards FMUSP’s excellence.
”The Board, in this mandate, has always been very open to meet the demands of students. With the medical practice of an orthopedist, like Prof. Tarcisio, and the listening of an oncologist, Prof. Roger, they made up this management. I appreciate the contact and receptivity that Prof. Eloisa Bonfá has already been offering to us”, declared Gustavo da Silva Azevedo, student representative at the Administrative Technical Council (CTA).
Prof. Eloisa Silva Dutra de Oliveira Bonfá, who will take over as Director of FMUSP, accompanied the ceremony from a distance, due to commitments outside the state of São Paulo. Prof. Paulo Manuel Pêgo Fernandes, who will be the new Deputy Director, also honored the event.
Prof. Eduardo Magalhães Rego highlighted the conduct of the directors: “at all times they had a global vision and the ability to listen, in addition to making straight and honest decisions”.
The organization of the Directors' Gallery is the responsibility of the Historical Museum “Prof. Carlos da Silva Lacaz”, together with the Board of Directors. All 29 paintings are on display, starting with the effigy of the Institution's first leaders on the second floor, to the most current ones, positioned on the third floor of FMUSP.
