The first public notice for Fundo Medicina - Endowment FMUSP was launched on April 25, and began to receive applications for the competition of subsidies for innovative academic projects that contribute to the development of Teaching, Research, Extension and Innovation at Faculdade de Medicine da Universidade de São Paulo (FMUSP). The main topic to be addressed is “Dissemination of Scientific Medical Knowledge”. Applications were open until May 27, 2022 for undergraduate and graduate students and alumni, residents, researchers, professors and extension groups.

Endowment is a philanthropic, innovative, non-partisan and non-profit tool, coordinated by volunteers (academics, professors, alumni and financial market professionals) whose purpose is to enable, with an endowment made up of donations from individuals or companies, excellence training. The contribution of the donors is perpetual, since the resources are invested in investments and only the proceeds from them are used.

The launch of the firts public notice of Fundo Medicina is an important milestone because, with it, Endowment FMUSP puts into practice one of its primary reasons for existence, which is to enable the increasingly complete training of students and professors and, consequently, to contribute with the maintenance of the leadership of FMUSP and the improvement of medicine and health in Brazil. Student Nilo Arthur, Endowment FMUSP general director, declared that the opening of the call for projects marks the maturity of the Fundo de Medicina, “signals an efficient administration of its resources over the last few years. From now on, by ensuring a consistent annual flow of donations, the Fundo de Medicina will have a real impact on the academic community and, consequently, will generate shared value for Brazilian society”. The Fundo de Medicina was created at FMUSP in 2016, based on the successful models of Harvard and Yale universities in the United States. Since then, it has been improved with the renovation of a physical space for use as an office, the definition of Mission, Vision and Values, the dispatch of legal and tax documents, the opening of bank accounts, the creation of the visual identity and the website, the implementation of technologies for raising funds and other more necessary demands. In November 2021, the Dean of Universidade de São Paulo (USP) recognized the FMUSP Endowment in a partnership with two other endowments, of Escola Politécnica (POLI) and Faculdade de Economia, Administração e Contabilidade (FEA), for the launch of the Fundo Patrimonial da USP.

The Endowment FMUSP presents as some of its social objectives the ethical, cultural, academic and professional improvement of the students and professors of FMUSP; the development of management skills in health, innovation, appreciation of leadership and entrepreneurship, as a way to lead the development of Brazilian health; and boost the culture of university philanthropy in the country. To make contributions to the Fundo de Medicina, there are options via credit, debit or bank card, including on a recurring basis and with registration to monitor donations.
