The consulting list Clarivate Analytics annually shows the most influential researchers, based on the number of citations per article publishes in 10 years.
The Highly Cited Researchers list of 2018, with the most influential researchers in their field of knowledge, divulged in November 27th, brings four USP professor, two of which are from FMUSP. The selection is based on the number of citations per article published during a period of 10 years.
Among the 4 thousand names and 21 fields of knowledge, are featured professors Paulo Andrade Lotufo, Titular of the Department of Clinical Medicine of FMUSP, Guilherme Polanczyk, Associate professor of the Department of Psychiatry of FMUSP, Carlos Augusto Monteiro, of the School of Public Health of USP, and Paulo Artaxo, of the Physics Institute of USP.
“It is the Acknowledgement of a great amount of work, especially connected to the creation of the Center of Clinical Epidemiologic Research of the University Hospital, where the Longitudinal Study of Adult Health (ELSA) is being developed. I think the big secret is to involve a great number of international partnerships. Also, the most cited north americans are only so because they have a great number of researches made with international partners. Another question is that I’m in an interdisciplinary field. The epidemiology involves several areas and this also brings several citations”, states the professor.
For Prof. Guilherme Polanczyk, the presence of his name on this list, as a representative of a group of Brazilian researchers in Child and Adolescents Psychiatry, “means the recognition of the quality of the knowledge we are generating and the relevance of the area in the scientific arena”. Polanczyk highlights “this is a new and growing discipline, which has been greatly contributing to the understanding of the origins of the mental disorders and the construction of prevention strategies”.
Annually divulged by the consulting agency Clarivate Analytics since 2014, this year’s list brings several researchers from federal and state Brazilian universities. The most cited researchers re from the United States (2639 on the whole); followed by the United Kingdom, with 546 researchers; in third place is China, with 482. At the University of Harvard (USA) is the largest number of cited professors: 186 on the whole.
