The Medical Education Development Center (CEDEM), which recently became an Integrated Center for Academic Activities at the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (FMUSP), is the first institution in its field in Latin America, and the seventh in the world, to be recognized by the Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE) for its Excellence in the Teaching Staff Development category.
With this, CEDEM receives a certification from the program Aspire - International Recognition of Excellence in Medical Education, which recognizes the excellence of an educational institution in different areas and provides mechanisms for validating good practices and innovations that can be replicated.
“Among the elements that most contributed to this international recognition was the firm intention of working to support our community and, based on this successful experience, contributing to other training centers in Brazil, always sharing with generosity what we know, listening carefully and learning from the experience of other centers, always seeking the best evidence to support our practices and producing creative and innovative educational solutions that respond to the needs of teachers and students, in the context of the 21st century”, says Dr. Patricia Tempski, CEDEM Coordinator.
For the Executive Director of the Center, Dr. Matheus Torsani, “this places CEDEM among the best centers of Medical Education in the world, both in research, postgraduate and extension activities, as well as in the training of professors and students”.
On the factors that contributed to this ratification of CEDEM's quality in teaching staff development, Dr. Tempski highlights the “coherence and consistency of our actions aligned with the firm purpose of contributing to our community of professors and students, in addition to the belief that health education is an area of knowledge to be developed as well as the identity of a 'professional educator' ”.
CEDEM
The FMUSP Medical Education Development Center is composed of a team of specialists in health education, which contributes to the improvement of the Faculty's courses. It works in the monitoring and organization of the educational program, teacher development, psycho pedagogical support and professional development of students in the Mentoring Program.
In addition, it offers services such as training in the use of digital platforms and tools, support for the transmission of classes, organization of the virtual learning environment, online assessments, educational planning and teacher development workshops.
“The purpose of CEDEM is to help professors find greater satisfaction in their teaching practice, making it more effective and inspiring, based on the application of scientific evidence, new technologies and the principles of adult education. We believe that the professionalization of teaching contributes to innovation and production of knowledge in the area of health education, which materializes in better professional training and in the improvement of the health care offered to the Brazilian population”, says Dr. Patricia Tempski.
