FMUSP Gallery of Deans, a university tradition, was reopen on December 15. It was a morning of reunion at the 105 years old Institution: former deans, family members, teachers and the staff met the result of a long and thorough project of restauration of the Gallery’s canvases and frames.
On the reopen day, a special moment happened: Vice-President of the InCor Directing Council and member of the HCFMUSP Deliberative Council, Professor Fábio Jatene saw again his father portrait, Doctor Adib Jatene (1929-2014), who directed FMUSP between 1990 and 1994.
The permanent exposition of the restored portraits of the FMUSP Deans is being promoted by the FMUSP Dean’s Council together with the Historical Museum “Prof. Carlos da Silva Lacaz” – FMUSP. The exposition brings to the public 27 oil portraits of all FMUSP Deans between 1912 and 2014. The pieces are bordered with handcraft frames with a customized model, used exclusively by FMUSP.
The portraits are made in the end of each administration and, today, it’s one of the most longstanding traditions of FMUSP. Important portraitists like Augusto Esteves, Augusto Mendes da Silva, Luiz Bruno Silva, Marcus Cláudio and P. Olzaga signed the works in the exposition.
The Deans’ portraits, such as the portraits of other professors, went through a meticulous restauration process between 2010 and 2012, summing up to 84 restored pieces. In the following year until 2016, the pieces were exhibited at the Historical Museum “Prof. Carlos da Silva Lacaz” – FMUSP, in an event that was attended by almost 10.000 people and, since December 15, the pieces are being showed at the second and third floor’s hall of FMUSP main building.
With the portraits, a small biographical note is added into the panel, highlighting the institution where each Dean graduated and his main actions leading FMUSP.
