According to the ranking of “The World's Best Hospitals 2022”, a list organized annually by the US magazine Newsweek, the Hospital das Clínicas (HC) of the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (FMUSP) leads among the public hospitals in the country.
In total, 2,200 hospitals distributed across 27 countries were considered, with the best placed three being Americans. In Brazil, of the 196 institutions evaluated, the first place was Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, followed by Sírio Libanês, and HCFMUSP appears in eighth place, the most prominent among the participating public entities. In order to reach the final result, the capacity of institutions to adapt to new challenges and improvisation skills were considered and a weighting of the calculation of three categories was carried out: recommendation from peers (national and international), patient experience and performance indicators of the clinical staff.
“We are very proud to be featured again in the Newsweek rankings. HCFMUSP managed to maintain its level of excellence, which we cherish so much, in another year of a pandemic, thanks to its dedicated and competent professionals. Receiving this classification and knowing that once again we are considered a reference among hospitals in the world is very gratifying”, said Eng. Antonio José Rodrigues Pereira, Superintendent of HCFMUSP.
Among the specialties analyzed by the ranking, which judges units from all over the world, HCFMUSP was in: 22nd position in Neurology, 24th in Cardiology, 38th in Cardiac Surgery, 52nd in Orthopedics, 73rd in Neurosurgery and 99th in Oncology (https:// www.newsweek.com/worlds-best-specialized-hospitals-2022).
Professor Eloisa Silva Dutra de Oliveira Bonfá, Clinical Director of HCFMUSP, declared: “it is with great honor that we are once again named in Newsweek magazine among the best hospitals in the country and the best in the public network, especially after years as challenging as the last ones, in which we were a reference in the care of serious cases of Covid-19. Having HCFMUSP on this list for the third consecutive year makes us proud and also motivates us to continue performing excellent work for the population assisted by SUS (Brazil’s public healthcare system), which could count on the resilience and total dedication of our professionals, to whom I also extend my gratitude and admiration. ”
