On October 16th the World Restart a Heart Day will be celebrated with activities on the day and during the week at the Medical School of USP, the Hospital das Clínicas and the University Hospital. The goal is to alert to the problem of sudden cardiac arrest, the third cause of death around the world and to teach the lay people the identification procedures and initial actions for this situation.

The initiative, which highlights the need of lay people to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation is of the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation. The activities will be coordinated by the Kids Save Lives Brazil Program, which emphasizes: “It only takes two hands to save a life”.

The International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation orients people to remember the three Cs when finding an unconscious individual:

1)      Check the responsivity and breathing of the victim,

2)      Call for help through 192 (Brazilian emergency number)

3)      Effectively compress the thorax (100-120 compression/min.)
