Prof. Tania Sih, from the Department of Legal Medicine, Medical Ethics, Social and Occupational Medicine of the Medical School of the Universidade de São Paulo (FMUSP), is the first woman to take up the position of president of the World Congress of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology, which was held from April 7th to the 10th, this year, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. More than 2000 doctors from over 60 different nationalities participated in the event which gathered the greatest specialists in the world in the area for the update of clinical and surgical conducts.
Besides being a teacher of USP, Prof. Tania Sih is President of the Scientific Department of Otorhinolaryngology of the Brazilian Society of Pediatricians (SBP). She has more than 36 books published, some translated in 10 languages, has taken part in events and gave courses in more than 70 countries. Prof. Tania also acted in the cooperation for the establishment of international societies, such as, in the region of Asia/the Pacific, the Asia Pacific Otolaryngology Group (APOG), an in Africa, the PENTAFRICA.
In 2018, Prof. Tania received two tributes for the notorious act in the area of otolaryngology and humanitarian efforts for the diffusion of free continued medical education. The title Nikhil Bhatt International Awards was granted by the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, in Atlanta, and the award Honorary Fellowship by the American College of Surgeons, during the 104th Clinical Congress of the entity, held in Boston, at the USA. With more than 100 years of existence, the Honorary Fellowship was attributed, so far, to 460 doctors around the world, but only 10 Brazilians, among of which are the following FMUSP professors: Prof. Benedicto Montenegro, Prof. Euryclides de Jesus Zerbini, Prof. Adib Domingos Jatene, Prof. Dario Birolini and recently Prof. Tania Sih.“I’m proud in being able to offer technical and scientific knowledge and humanitarian service, since my books are available in the internet, which allows for a free and continued education in several languages and for updates for doctors around the world”, declared Prof. Tania Sih.
