The exam was held in early March by more than 2,200 professionals from around the world; 23 residents from the Institute participated
Second and third-year residents of the Clinical Oncology Residency Program at the São Paulo State Cancer Institute (Icesp), a unit linked to the Hospital das Clínicas (HC) of the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (FMUSP) and the São Paulo State Health Department, achieved the best performance in the annual exam of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) for the second time.
The exam, which included Clinical Oncology residency programs, took place in early March 2023, with the participation of more than 2,200 professionals from around the world, including 23 residents from Icesp.
In the evaluation, participants answered 200 multiple-choice questions that covered all areas of knowledge in the oncology field, through a certified digital platform, over a period of six hours.
"The ASCO exam is conducted with the participation of all training programs in Oncology in the United States of America. Being among the top performers indicates that the training carried out at the Cancer Institute has the same quality as the training provided at the best American universities. Furthermore, it confirms the dedication of our professors and preceptors to our residents and the high quality of medical training offered at USP," says Professor Paulo Hoff, Full Professor of the Clinical Oncology Discipline at the Department of Radiology and Oncology of FMUSP.
The coordinator of the Clinical Oncology Residency Program at Icesp, Dr. Milena Mak, also emphasizes the importance of the placement in the exam. "Ranking first proves the excellence of our residency program and the dedication of the residents who are graduating from the Institute," she concludes.
