President of the Scientific Department of Otorhinolaryngology of the Brazilian Society of Pediatricians (SBP) and teacher at FMUSP, Prof. Dr. Tânia Maria Sih was elected by the representative entities to preside the 1st World Congress of Pediatric Otolaryngology, which will take place from April 7th to April 10th of 2019, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

In 2018, the specialist was awarded with the important title of Honorary Fellowship granted by the American College of Surgeons, which in the version of 2018 awarded 12 of the most prominent surgeons in the world, including another FMUSP professional, Prof. Dr. Samir Rasslan, titular of the Department of Surgery of the School. According to information from professor Tânia, “In 120 years of experience, the American College of Surgeons awarded 10 Brazilian doctors who, coincidentally or not, belong to the House of Arnaldo, among them the professor Benedito Montenegro, Euryclides de Jesus Zerbini, Adib Jatene, Angelita Gama and Dario Birolini”.

For the professor, “it is an unmatched event having two women (Angelita Gama and Tânia Sih herself) as the only two Latin women doctors to be awarded in 120 years by the institution”.

Also in 2018, the American Academy of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery awarded professor Tânia with the 2018 Nikhil J. Bhatt, MD International Public Service Award, for her dedication to education, training and advances in the treatment of disorders in the area of pediatric otorhinolaryngology in Latin America and in the world. The award, delivered on October in Atlanta, in the United States of America, is granted to professionals who contribute in a meaningful way to advance the segment and also for the commitment to the public service.

The experience of her 35 years of career, teaching courses and giving lectures in about 56 countries, were decisive to the nomination of the doctor as the president of the event which will take place in Argentina. The professor has 36 books published in several languages, great part of which is available online and for free, including the series of 17 volumes of the manuals of otorhinolaryngology of the Interamerican Association of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology (IAPO).
