As it is tradition at FMUSP, the undertaking ceremony of the Director, Prof. Tarcisio Eloy Pessoa de Barros Filho, and the Vice-Director, Prof. Roger Chammas, was crowded with authorities, representatives of civil entities in the medical area, leading officers from other universities, directors and former directors from unities of USP, professors, students and staff, have filled the FMUSP Theater at the celebration held on November 12th.
After receiving the academic cap – complementary dressing symbolizing his possession of the office – from the hands of the former director, Prof. Jose Otavio Costa Auler Jr., the new director delivered his undertaking speech, emphasizing the priorities of his management. “We will maintain the principles established by the Project 2020 of management approved by the collegiate of this House 8 years ago, meaning, we will keep looking at humanization, integration, internationalization, teaching excellency, incorporation of new technology and sustainability”, proffered Prof. Tarcisio.
The new director highlighted the importance of integral education for the students, of ethics on the compromises and daily interaction of the health professional, and the importance of worthy attendance and solidarity to the most needed portion of the population. He reinforced the need to maintain the integration of the research groups, which has been providing results, increasingly substantial in terms of scientific production for FMUSP.
He has announced the FMUSP 2020 gathering, which is going to happen in two years from now, to handle the path of the management for the next years. “We have to question what kind of health professionals we want to graduate in 2030; which path corrections should be done in our thematic pillars; if there is a need for the inclusion of new thematic pillars; which are the propositions relating to our insertion and collaboration for the health systems”, highlighted the Professor.
The Dean of USP, Prof. Vahan Agopyan, briefly remembered the origins of some of the most important teaching and research institutions in the State of São Paulo, highlighting in special the social responsibility and the role of USP and FMUSP for education, research and university extension. “The activities of the State are always joint and the presence of important personalities verifies this important role held by our University”.
The Secretary of Health of the State of São Paulo and former Dean of USP, Prof. Marco Antonio Zago, affirmed that São Paulo’s society will keep looking at FMUSP as a model and a place of renewal of knowledge. “The university extension, leadership and innovative research held by FMUSP have a huge role inside the State Secretary of Health and for the Unified Health System”, he said.
Prof. Tarcisio Eloy Pessoa Barros Filho was Vice-Director of the institution from 2014 to 2018, he is Titular Professor of the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology since 2003 and Head of the Vertebral Spine Service of the Institute of Orthopedics and Traumatology of HCFMUSP.
The Vice-Director, Prof. Roger Chammas is a teacher at the Medical School of USP since 2000, Titular Professor of Oncology since 2009 and coordinator of the Center of Translational Investigation in Oncology of the Cancer Institute of the State of São Paulo.
