The finalists of the Tese Destaque of the Universidade de São Paulo (USP), edition of 2020, were announced on October 14th, 2020, and among the Honorable Mentions is a doctoral dissertation of the Pulmonology Graduate Program of the Faculdade de Medicina (FM). The title of the research contemplated is "Spontaneous breathing during mechanical ventilation in an experimental model of acute lung injury: assessment of lung inflammation by PET-CT using two values of positive end-expiratory pressure”, by the student Caio César Araújo Morais with the advisor Prof. Eduardo Leite Vieira Costa, doctor at the Instituto do Coração of Hospital das Clínicas of FMUSP.

The organization of the Tese Destaque USP award is organized by the Provost of Graduate Study (PRPG), with the objective of extolling the most relevant Doctoral dissertation at the University. This year, the works defended from January 1st, 2018 to December 31th, 2019, of all programs, were divided into the major areas of Agrarian, Biological, Exact and Earth Sciences, Health, Human, Applied Social, Engineering, Linguistics / Letters and Arts and Multidisciplinary.

The finalists will be awarded online on November 18th, 2020, with a prize for each area in cash to be given to the student (a) and counselors (as) in resources for funding, plus the delivery of two certificates of Honorable Mentions. Stimulating the constant search for scientific excellence is one of the main premises of USP's PRPG. The FM congratulates and thanks the student Caio César Araújo Morais and Prof. Eduardo Leite Vieira Costa for their dedication and contribution of knowledge to society.
