The study will allow the better comprehension of the cirrhosis complications in populations of several ethnic groups and define criteria for a more effective treatment.

The cirrhosis is the 7th cause of adult death in the world. In the Latin-American population the disease is more frequent and the mortality rates are higher, if compared with the European population. At the Hospital das Clínicas, the disease represents 8% of the emergency attendances. The alcohol, the viral hepatitis and the liver fatness are responsible for 90% of the causes.
