The Humanization is a transversal knowledge field in the health area which concentrates efforts on the ethical and empathic quality in interpersonal relations on the practice of attention, management and teaching. Its development is due to institutional actions that promote values and behaviors to a humanization culture strongly anchored on mutual respect and collaborative work for the common good. Several actions for the development of the humanization culture were accomplished in the period from 2014 to 2018. Here we are highlighting the main ones.

On the Medical Teaching Scope

A Bioethics-Humanization pillar at the UC12 Discipline from the mandatory curriculum, inserting programmatic theoretical and practical content of medical humanities, humanization and bioethics from the first to the fourth graduation year in Medicine on the new curriculum.

On the Health Research Scope

The participation of students in research projects and scientific initiation was encouraged, such as the Experience Research of the HCFMUSP Patient and the project Hospital Dance, to study the patient perception of the humanized care in the hospital context.

On the University Extension Scope

On the Freshmen Reception Week from the Medical School, since 2016, the Social Action project has taken place in partnership with CAOC and NTH for a humanization action along with HC patients on the coming of the freshmen to FMUSP.

Sentences the students heard from patients about what they expect from good doctors, during the visitations to the HC infirmary.

“If Medicine is your dream, you are on the right path. Only look in the patient’s eyes and talk. The last thing we need is arrogance… Good luck and be great doctors!”

“A good doctor is the one who treats us with care, affection and respect. It is the one who brings us trust and sincerity, telling the truth without being deceitful.”

In 2015, the Humanization League was created, of an interdisciplinary character for students of medicine, infirmary, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and phonoaudiology of USP, with the goal of developing competences related to the health area.

In 2014, an International Congress of Humanities and Humanization in Health was held with the goal of promoting the discussion of humanization in health services and the role of humanities on the education of health professionals. The total circulation of public on both days of the Congress was about 1.229 people, 1.031 of them being speakers. From the total of speakers, 759 (75%) were from the State of São Paulo, the other 272 (26%) came from other States.

On the Services Management of Superior Education Scope

At the Clínicas Hospital, the humanization has gained strength since 2012 with the creation of the Technical and Scientific Humanization Center (NTH). The successful experience of the NTH and the expectation of deepening the insertion of the humanization practices in education have led to the creation of GTHFMUSP (Work Group of Humanization FMUSP), in 2015. The GTH-FMUSP is composed by teachers, students, researchers and the school staff, acting in the elaboration of humanization actions aimed at the educational environment.

In 2017 and 2018, the humanization constructed a work pillar at the strategic planning of the Executive Board of FMUSP. The GTHFMUSP participated in four main guidelines of humanization work, shown on the board below.
